A typical course of study is five days per week two hours per day with homework.
Tai Chi Chuan is generally performed at what can be called a walking pace. Since Tai Chi
Chuan is a martial art there are punches and kicks. Like most martial arts, Tai Chi Chuan has
sequences of canonical movements called sets. The signature set in Chen family style is Lao
Jia which is translated as Old Frame.  It takes about 14 minutes to perform and has 11 kicks
and 13 punches. There are five other unarmed sets as well as ten weapons sets - all the
weapons are lightweight and unsharpened.  For those especially interested, search for Chen

A typical class includes sitting meditation, standing meditation, traditional Chen family warm-
up exercises, several tai chi chuan sets, movement sequences with what are called tai chi tools
(a playground ball and several different pieces of turned wood) and what are called Qigong
routines (literally "life energy cultivation"). We do NOT teach push hands. So NO (zero)
flips, rolls, tumbling or sparring.
There are breaks every 30 minutes for water and a break for a light snack at 60 minutes.
We would strongly prefer not to have to schedule medications during class.
Likewise, we strongly prefer that students wear wrist-mounted biosensors in class so we can
track blood pressure, heartbeat and temperature. If someone ever invents a reasonably priced,
reliable and non-invasive blood glucose sensor we'll use that also. Our aim is to preempt
seizures and overheating. Our usual protocol is to seat the student, give some cool liquids and
make available Cool Wraps. We do not mind accommodating dark glasses and noise blockers.
We ask about allergies, triggers, undesirable behaviors, seizures and other medical conditions.
We also suggest DNA testing - there are about 800 genes we are interested in. If the family
is not comfortable with sharing that information that's fine with us.
Sets are scored daily so parents and interested parties can be emailed the day's scores. These
are useful for making quantitative decisions about sleep, diet, medications and so on - if the
