We note that our SABLE
application software suspects that
there were large slope collapses at
either or both purple circled
locations along the northern coast.
Naval survey ships should be able
to detect the characteristic debris
fans if such collapses occurred. As
was shown at the Lituya Bay
(Alaska) event in 1959 the waves
from such a collapse can be
substantially higher than the
normal 11 meter maximum for
most tsunamis. At Lituya the
waves were over 100 meters high
and the run up stripped all
vegetation lower than 500 meters.
