After Black threatens the e pawn with Qc6 White counters with Bd2 attacking the b
pawn. Black is not excited by the prospect of White mobilizing his dormant b and c pawns,
so Black defends with a5. Black still has a backward d pawn and his Bishop is very
limited, but Black has something of an initiative. White finally defends the e pawn with f3
- note that now White can no longer rapidly deploy his Rook and Queen for a Kingside
attack. White bids to activate his Bishop by c3, but Black again pushed past.
