In Western Africa a lion wakes up each morning knowing it must outrun the slowest
antelope or starve. An antelope (like the scimitar oryx [Oryx dammus] pictured to the
right, and thought to be extinct in the wild) wakes up each morning knowing it
must outrun the fastest lion (or a nearby oryx) or die. Whether one is predator or prey or the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, when the sun comes up you had better be running.
