California
K-12 Education Funding 2025-2026 (continued) |

I had figured out a construction budget for cubbies and
lockers for students; an office and |
camera control room; weapons, gear and clothing storage;
bathrooms; air and water |
filtration, security; possibly ramps (although wheelchair
classes were not at the top of the |
list); possible vehicle parking; and a food/drink
preparation area for 13 Treasures porridge, |
various teas and water. |
It was noted by interested parties that there are no (zero)
doctors nearby - the closest were |
probably in Pine Grove and at least 30 minutes of tough
driving away. The nearest hospital |
was in Jackson - another eight miles. |
 |
Interested parties drove Highway 26
(very unhappily) and noted with considerable |
disapproval that a doctor's office
near Zip's barbershop and also Pioneer Elementary |
School - all on Highway 88 in
Pioneer - had closed long ago. So it was strongly suggested |
that TWO medical offices (one for
Western medicine and one for Traditional Chinese |
Medicine) and a coffee shop and a
small retail store be planned for. The economics to |
support these additional businesses
were somewhat vague. |
In the meantime the Calaveras Unified
School District was considering closing either or |
both of
Mokelumne Hill Elementary and West Point Elementary. Each had
about 100 |
students - Railroad Flat Elementary
School had been closed a few years previously. |
There were lengthy discussions with
the Calaveras County District Attorney's office about |
a private business renting space at a
school and about storing weapons.
Calaveras Unified |
School District elected to make do
with the California 2023-4 budget and hope for more |
money and no hungry charter in
the future |
