California K-12 Education Funding 2025-2026 (continued)

I had figured out a construction budget for cubbies and lockers for students; an office and
camera control room; weapons, gear and clothing storage; bathrooms; air and water
filtration, security; possibly ramps (although wheelchair classes were not at the top of the
list);  possible vehicle parking; and a food/drink preparation area for 13 Treasures porridge,
various teas and water.
It was noted by interested parties that there are no (zero) doctors nearby - the closest were
probably in Pine Grove and at least 30 minutes of tough driving away. The nearest hospital
was in Jackson - another eight miles.

Interested parties drove Highway 26 (very unhappily) and noted with considerable
disapproval that a doctor's office near Zip's barbershop and also Pioneer Elementary
School - all on Highway 88 in Pioneer - had closed long ago. So it was strongly suggested
that TWO medical offices (one for Western medicine and one for Traditional Chinese
Medicine) and a coffee shop and a small retail store be planned for. The economics to
support these additional businesses were somewhat vague.
In the meantime the Calaveras Unified School District was considering closing either or
both of Mokelumne Hill Elementary and West Point Elementary. Each had about 100
students - Railroad Flat Elementary School had been closed a few years previously.
There were lengthy discussions with the Calaveras County District Attorney's office about
a private business renting space at a school and about storing weapons. Calaveras Unified
School District elected to make do with the California 2023-4 budget and hope for more
money and no hungry charter in the future
