It is generally agreed that Sun, Wu
Wu Hao and Yang styles came from Chen style. There are several
major divisions of Chen style itself: Hong style (after Hong
Jun Sheng); Chen Family style (Chen Xiaowang, Zhu
Tiancai, Wang Xian, Chen Xiaoxing, Chen Zhenglei ...);
Respect Tradition style (the late Chen Qingzhou); and Thunder
style (Chen Qinglei). At the moment, what I know of Li
style (from Li Rui Dong 1851-1917) strongly suggests a
relationship to Yang style, especially as Li was taught Yang
style in 1880 by Wang Lan Ting. Similarly, I am of the
opinion that Shen style (from Shen Zhi Long) is closest to Yang
style. Xiao style has many influences: Xing Yi, Yin Bagua
Zhang, Cheng Bagua Zhang, Wu Hao Tai Chi and Yang Tai Chi.
I have only seen two Spirit Dragon style unarmed sets BUT Li
Chuang has recorded a set with rings that is actually a ring
set as opposed to doing Yang Long form with rings in your
hands. That leaves us with (1) Zhaobao style, which
may have evolved independently from Chen style and (2) what we
might call monastic tai chi. We'd be eager to invite
teachers from other styles to visit and hold seminars |
