Lieutenant Colonel Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (6/15/1792 - 10/5/1855; died of bronchitis). He explored and surveyed a great deal of southeastern Australia. While not a quoll, there was an Australian native rodent-like animal known as a hopping mouse, Notomys mitchellii, named in his honor.
