Weapons - Staff  棒, 棍 Other names:  bo (Japanese), bong (Korean), kon (Chinese), gun (Chinese)

Versions taught: Hung Gar (Eight Trigram - Grandmaster Wing Lam); Shaolin (Nine Province Eyebrow Height - Grandmaster Wing Lam), Chen Family style Tai Chi Chuan (Grandmaster Chen Qing Zhou). There are dozens of staff sets - those mentioned above are current favorites. It should be mentioned that the student should seriously consider learning two or more two-person sets featuring staff against staff as well as staff against another weapon. Recommendations: the best first long weapon. Cost: varies with the material. Among the choices are graphite, steel, rattan, waxwood and oak. From $15 to $80.
