Short metal chain whip.
PRACTICE THIS OUTDOORS. There are a variety of link shapes as
well as a variety of weights. Usually, there is a weight
at each end and the link connecting the weight to the chain is
heftier than the rest of the links. As far as I know, illegal in
Ireland and Massachusetts, and probably other places as well. To be fair, Massachusetts is one of
seven states which ban assault rifles: the others are
California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, New York
and Washington DC. I have only seen this weapon in Japanese and
Okinawan martial arts where it is known as a manriki or a kusari
(plain chain) or kusari-fundo (chain with weights). Accordingly,
this is NOT a weapon that we teach. Fortunately, it is not
associated with Chen Family style at all - if it were we would
have to convince students to wear helmets, face guards,
heavy-duty gloves, shin guards (also known as greaves), probably
a chest protector (like a baseball catcher or umpire wears) and
vambraces. |
