Family style Tai Chi Chuan - beginners |
Packing
for remote class - daily |
NOTE: The SAITO
software features different types of individual student packing
lists. |
If you
enter your data we can email you a copy for printing and have a
checklist. |
You will need a
flat surface like a sofa, table or bed to pack on. And you will
need a bag. |
Personal items.
Clothing. All the weapons and tools needed. |
Clothing |
We do NOT
recommend wearing a belt or sash because a key part of early training is
to relax the hips. |
Normally Tai Chi Chuan stylists do NOT wear sashes or
rank belts. Like Xing Yi Chuan, |
Ba Ji Chuan and Bagua Zhang, Tai Chi Chuan is an internal art -
it is what is inside that counts. |
1. long black
cotton practice pants. Any loose, light pants will do. Shorts
are fine in hot weather |
2. in hot weather
a school t-shirt or polo in a light color like white or silver.
Any loose shirt will do. |
In
cool weather a long-sleeved school shirt any color. If you might
overheat, a t-shirt is fine |
3. a cotton
undershirt. You can put a school shirt over the undershirt you
wear in. This shirt is to change into after class |
4. a change of
underwear for after class if you want |
5. white cotton
socks for class. Any fabric (or color or length) is fine as long
as you are comfortable |
6. shoes - any
running shoe will do. We do NOT recommend sandals. The kit
contains traditional |
black shoes with
white cloth soles. These are inexpensive but do not last very
long. If you have |
leather kung fu
shoes, wear them. We usually standardize on black or white - ask
the teacher. |
We suggest having
a shoe horn |
7. one plastic
bag put sweaty clothes in and a second bag for shoes |
8. if you want to shower. Body wash,
towel, soap and
shampoo should be in your plan |
Personal
Items - all are optional |
9. mouthguard and
case |
10. tooth brush
and toothpaste |
11. cool wraps
for head or neck or both |
12. handkerchief,
a small towel and perhaps a small soft cloth to clean the
weapons |
13. if you wear
eyeglasses and a strap make sure to bring the strap. This
includes sunglasses |
14. if you wear a
hearing aid check its battery (which means you have the hearing
aid in your ear) |
15. if you wear
protective headgear (like a safety helmet) include it |
16. if you wear
contact lenses bring a container (so you can take them out) and
wetting solution |
17. if you use a
cell phone - bring it, but make sure the battery has charge |
18. if you wear a
smart watch or something else with biosensors for heartbeat,
temperature, blood |
pressure and
perhaps blood glucose make sure to wear it. |
19. if you wear
smartglasses bring them - as with all electronic devices, check
the charge |
20. if you use
our color-coded wristbands bring all four |
21. if you wear a
headband or hair devices (pins, clips, scrunchies ...) bring
them |
22. if you have
to take medications just before, immediately after or during
class, bring them. |
this should be
mentioned in the plan |
23. for break liquids usually cool water; sometimes herbal
tea. Really anything you like |
24. for break snacks
we often serve apple slices, but anything light and simple works |
in both cases, if
you are sensitive to any foods or beverages this should be
mentioned in your plan |
25. we are
unenthusiastic about students wearing jewelry - if something
falls off you have to stop class |
26. if you
absolutely must wear ear buds, ear phones or some other auditory
protection that's okay, |
but usually we
are struggling to communicate at the best of times. |
27. PECS cards if
you use them - we have some recommendations for special cards |
