An impressive number of
Richter 5.0 or greater events,
from the last forty years but
not if one measures against
Indonesian standards.

We note in passing that we
are puzzled why the recent
seismic events (a 5.1 just
struck at  10:34 on 6/21 UTC)
hammering Christchurch are
not nearer the fault which is
close to the WEST coast of the
South Island at that point.
Observers of the Honshu
seismic swarm will recall few
of  those hundreds of events
(and counting - another 5.4 at
8:50 6/21 UTC) were far
enough east to be on the fault
there.
