events. It is typical for the number of earthquakes in a Richter range
(say 5.0 to 5.9) to be ten times that of
the next range (6.0 to 6.9). High
Richter 6 events can be quite
destructive, especially if they are
shallow, but they almost never cause
tsunamis.
