We have no objection to anyone
wearing jewelry, although we feel obliged to mention that
earrings, watches and rings tend to invite unwelcome attention
on the street and in combat. If someone is wearing orthodontic
braces we suggest consulting with the dentist about wearing a
mouthguard. We do request that for rings and bracelets please
try a punch or two and some spiral rotations to verify that
the jewelry does not fly off. The Nei Gong exercises that we
typically do after sitting involve touching points or lines on
the head and face, but (so far) no problems for earring
wearers. For those with piercings we can probably think of
something. For example, having a pierced navel might
complicate the beginning of the Taiji Yangsheng Zhang set
where the short staff is drawn upward across the abdomen while
being held parallel to the floor and parallel to the
shoulders. We've seen Shaolin monks exercise while wearing
bead necklaces. Upon asking, we were informed they remove the
beads or tuck them into the garment if there will be flips or
extreme gymnastics. |
